After a week long...

Jean & Me
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

The weekend has passed. After a week of being sedated over a cocktail of drugs for my cold, my throat infection & of cos being put on antibiotics, i decided to head out, after a wedding dinner with my family.

I met Jean past midnight on friday. And had a couple of drinks (ang moh liang teh*) to celebrate that end of my medication. Went to MOS, ended up feeling quite sleazed up frankly. Sheesh... But nonetheless, it was with Jeannie, my best mate. So cheers to that.

I walked out from the entire Saturday packing my room, and not heading out... But i doubt that would help to cure my illness. Today's like tuesday, and i got started on my second batch of drugs.
Craps... i ish still velly velly sick.

meme : twenty four...

write a post with 24 weird facts/things/habits about yourself (not in chronological order)

Ok... everyone's doing it...
so i'll try it out myself too...
  1. I am born with a sharp chin, thus i look like i have a flat face.
  2. I hate durians... really thiiissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss much.
  3. I am lactose intolerant but i love ice creams & milk shakes... I may puke after eating, but heck, let's do it again.
  4. I have a huge appetite for handbags & shoes. Last Count : bags > 50, shoes > 50
  5. I have lazy eye ... my left eye has astig about 100 degrees, my right astig 375 degree.
  6. I have too many white tank tops for my own good : more than 20 pcs.
  7. I curse a whole lot for a girl. Despite having grown up in a zero-vulgarities-tolerance family, i curse. Thankfully i have cut down a lot.
  8. When i was 13, i hurled a punch at this chick who called me names in the school toilet. Thankfully, she ducked.
  9. When i was 17, i flunked my written theory for driving license like 5 times. Thankfully, i passed my practical the 1st time through. I also passed my Singapore Basic Theory for Driving like the first time. So don't worry.
  10. I adore Hello Kitty. I got Hello Kitty handphone accessories, plush toys, vanity mirrors, hair brushes, face mist, tissue boxes cover, stickers, fan, night light, alarm clocks, airplane models, purses... and beat this ... HELLO KITTY REAR VIEW MIRROR for my cabrio. Even my friends have to buy Hello Kitty plush dolls for me for my birthday back in college. These days, i tone down my addiction.

  12. I got "race" blood in me. My dad has it, My mom has it. My dad once came home all bloodied from racing in his bike, thus he forbid us girls to ride a bike ever. My mom likes to go nuts driving, in Singapore roads no less... let's just say it's fast. Me... i just like to drive.
  13. When i was 3, i swallowed a 50 cent coin, while playing with the neighborhood kids.
  14. At that age of 3 when i swallowed the 50 cent coin, I had to go for my very 1st xray... along with my mom (who's heavily pregnant with my sis).
  15. I switched two kindergardens, and never attended play school.
  16. I graduated before i turn 21
  17. I had a wild time in college... drinking before i turn 21 every weekend... which is like illegal back in the US.

  23. I love chilli since i am very young. like really young, and i can't live without it.
  24. My two front teeth are patched up. I broke it once at the swimming pool when i was below 10 yrs old... and another time before i turn 12 , while racing BMX bikes at home... DRIFTING with my teeth hitting the tarmac.
I finished my twenty four... this is torturous...

I ish still velly sick

Ahhh chooo... turns out the cold has finally appeared. I am having a nasty cold, and it is worse than two days ago. Body aches are gone but then again, my nose feels like crap. And it's the weekend, and i still feel shitty.

Ok, today marks the start of the Great Singapore Sale. What's there to buy? Hmmm.. GG5 is having their own sale, but 20% off current stuff, and more discounts on past seasons. Mphosis is starting theirs on friday. Mango's abt to start, so i heard from my grapevine, and hmmm... Gucci. I think that's the one i'm waiting for.

Today is the screening of X-Men. Yep, the 3rd installment of the comic series. It's interesting. Well, make sure you stay till after the credits. I didn't, so now i have to rewatch it again.

ahhh chooo... time to sleep...

Eddie & Ross' wedding dinner

EDDIE & ROSS ...

The dinner was beautiful, and was held at Fort Canning Green, by Legends. It was outdoor event, amidst the greenery. There was a live band playing, hired from Wala Wala (a pub in Singapore, famous for its live bands). This was the first wedding i ever attended that is outdoor and had a live band churning out songs like Vertigo, Video Killed the Radio Star...And that is just extremely fun & awesome.

And of course, Eddie and Ross are now married. I met Eddie less than a year ago. Before that, i have only heard of his name and his legendary namesake : the devil. Yes, he and alcohol are best buddies, and that includes them menacing all the guys that i know. But it sure has been fun. Ross has always been there for him, and watches him while he gets everyone to drink. Perhaps this is what love is. Acccomodating each other. But i am so happy for them. They look really lovely together.

heh... Cos the boys in my group are his soccerAnd of cos, i always remember the MC saying why it is not coincidence that the Champions leagues just finished, and the World Cup hasn't started, that the wedding is held now. Heh kakis. We were seated right in the front of the entire hall.

My entire drinking group was there. And it has been a fun time. The wines are always been topped up, altho i did hear the beer was a bit flat. I think i overdrank the red wine, and was having this huge headache by the time i got home. Anything else, i can't recall. But i only remember it was fun. And of course, i think we all overdrank. The white wine supply ran out even before the main course dinner was over. I admit i kinda lost track what was going on. I was laughing and giggling the whole way. And that's the way it should be, isn't it? It's Eddie & Ross' wedding night afterall.

I can't wait for this other couple to get married. And i already informed them i'm gonna be the devilish 姐妹. So Janice & Greg... congrats, you guys are getting married. :)

Shanghai 上海

Shanghai
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

I just got back from Shanghai, China and it's been great. I had fun. Above would be the picture of Pudong 鋪東, with the infamous Oriental Pearl Tower 東方明珠, sitting along the Huangpu River. The Oriental Pearl Tower is like a significant symbol of Shanghai, like The Statue of Liberty is to New York City in US. It's huge and just looks very pretty from The Bund. The Oriental Pearl Tower is at the opposite side of The Bund 灘外. The Bund sits on Puxi, which meant the west side of the bank of the Huangpu River.

The office which i was sent to, for my trip, is located at Puxi, along with many other major office buildings and shopping districts. It overlooks a scene from Mission Impossible : 3. Well, if you need to know which scene, please email me. Puxi is home to many major tourist spots like Xintiandi, Cheng Huang Temple and not forgetting, the infamous Xiang Yang Market.

Xintiandi is alike to Singapore's Clarke Quay, with its bustling nightlife and lil' pubs, as well as the usual Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Starbucks. The price of a cup of latte isn't cheap, it comes at 15-30 rmb, but that's a lot considering the average wage in the country. The weather in Shanghai is very nice, averaging at 14 degrees celsius to about 22 degrees celsius, when i visited. But a lil' rainy. So sitting out in Xintiandi, sipping my Bailey's made me feel really good, with the combi of cold weather, and a nice warm drink.

Cheng Huang Temple is one of the oldest structures around, and combines a blend of modern and historic culture of Shanghai. Shanghai has always been known to be kinda historic yet modern in its structures to its way of life. Cheng Huang Temple is interlinked with yuyuan garden, which offers a fare of Shanghaiese food as well as lil' oriental trinkets & momentos for the tourists. In the area of Cheng Huang Temple is historic structures, but within yuyuan gardens, you find Starbucks & Dairy Queen. It's like whoa!

Xiang Yang market needs no introduction. The only sad part is it's about to close come June 06. It is afterall a market filled with many interesting buys. I shan't bother to elaborate. Cos i'm sure everyone knows.

Overall, i am starting to like China, whether it's Beijing or Shanghai. It's mysterious, and alluring. There's nothing not to love about Shanghai especially. The food, the accessibility, the stuff. It's now seemingly easy to assimilate into its culture and soak it all up. I can't wait to go visit again. And of course, i miss my 哥哥 Dennis...

北京 Beijing ...

I just arrived back from Beijing. Man, it has so many changes since the last i visited, about 3 years back. I don't have the luxury of having a travelling companion, as this was a business trip. I had to go resolve some network & equipment issues.

It has changed significantly since i last travelled to Beijing. My work site is at 健外SOHO, right at where the World Trade Centre is. Area : 國貿。Everyday i would travel to work on the subway system from 西單 (Xidan). Everyone has this preconceived notion of how dirty China is, especially for someone who has lived in Singapore for a number of years. But it's SO NOT. I love it so much. The surrounding temperature is cooling. You can get away with wearing a light sweater. But Beijing being Beijing, the weather is very erratic, one minute you can run around in a tee, the next you need a coat.

健 外SOHO is made up of a couple of blocks of offices, alike to Singapore's biopolis. Phase 1 is completed, and Phase 2's construction is around 70% done. Everything you need will be in that cluster : food, supermarket, travel agency, including a Starbucks. Being SOHO, there are a couple of units whereby people do actually live & work out of their units. There are also an influx of Caucasian people working in the cluster. Singapore's very own Capitaland's group has also built a couple of work blocks very close to SOHO. It is proof that Beijing is really evolving.

The food this time round wasn't too oily. Since i travelled alone, i spend my meal times alone. I decided to venture to Wang Fu Jing. They closed off a portion of the road for people to walk around, leaving enough space for like police cars & tour trams. Wang Fu Jing has many little shops, from your regular Giordano, to Metersbonwe, to a couple of locally owned departmental store. At the start of the road, there's a huge mall that caters to the well-heeled crowd, having Max & Co, Tiffany's & the likes as its tenants. Truly a sight to marvel at.

The saving grace was i had a really plushy hotel room. I got the rest that i've been yearning for. Overall the trip is an eye-opener. Much has changed over the years. When i took the subway from my hotel area to my work site, it doesn't feel as though i was in an unfamiliar grounds. Perhaps that's a sign of the times. Perhaps it's a sign that i should relocate. Whatever the case is, i have another work trip coming up. SHANGHAI , here i come.

Beauty or brains.

I was browsing through the papers today and came across witty Edwin Yeo's article " There's a reason it's called a 'beauty' contest" on 17th April 06 TNP. Entire article as per below :

IF you have followed this column faithfully over the years (yes, the two of you in the back there), you know that this is my favourite time of the year.
Yes, it's Miss Singapore Universe time again.
So you sit there thinking to yourself, exactly how many times can he tell the same jokes about Miss Singapore Universe?
Yes, truthfully, there are only so many times you can talk about lorry accidents, and it's been quite a few years.
Luckily, this year, the emphasis has been on brains over beauty, because 'who says we're bimbos' is such a new tagline.
The big deal, as it turned out, was that none of the supposed brains made the top three of the contest.
Duh. A retard could have told you that.
Last I checked, this was still called a BEAUTY contest, not a BRAINY contest.
But that does give me a great idea though.
Why don't we gather all the Miss Singapore Universe contestants and put them on the game show, Singapore's Brainiest Beauty Contestants?
It would go something like this.
Cheryl Fox: 'At what speed when a motorist is travelling will the cops issue a parking ticket?'
Contestant (quickly buzzing in): '150kmh! But they should go slower on weekends, especially when using the underpass.'
I just had a conversation with a female friend earlier this week. This is how our conversation went.
Me: 'You know what, I think I should start dating Ah Lians.'
Her: 'What? Why?'
Me: 'They're much simpler, far less complicated than all you western-educated women.'
Her: 'But what about intelligent conversation after sex?'
Me: 'Oh please, it's over-rated. All you really need is to light up a cigarette and get ready to go again.'
Her: 'Neanderthal.'
But she knows I'm not wrong. Back in the old days, it was so much simpler. All you had to do was club them on their head and drag them to the caves.
Brainy women were not much use back then, mostly because they would know how to avoid the clubbing.
We've come a long way. These days, we go to a club and drag them back to our homes, and that usually only works with the less brainy ones.
The brainy ones still know how to avoid the clubbing. Fact is, thousands of years of evolution later, they are even more honed than before.
This is why, despite all my jokes about the Miss Universe winners, I've always had the greatest respect for them.
You see, I realised a long time ago that women control the world. Women, especially the beautiful ones, control the men. So what if they don't have scholarships with A*Star?
At some point in a man's life, he would probably have had a similar conversation with his partner as the following:
Woman: 'Go on, dear, eat the fruit. It'll be okay.'
Man: 'But baby, God said we can't.'
Woman: 'Who do you want to listen to? God or the woman who's going to take you to heaven and back tonight?'
Man: 'Give me that damned fruit.'
That, of course, is the oldest story you will find which proves that women with beauty, not brains, will always end up winners.
After all, how smart could Eve have been if she listened to a talking snake?

I just can't help but laugh over it. My name is Eve, in case no one knows by now. As the last sentence in the article puts "how smart can i be if i listened to a talking snake?", i am really not smart. Despite being academically inclined, i do boast two degrees, but i prefer to be known as an airhead, or a bimbo, more often than anything. I subscribe to the school of thought of 傻女人都是可愛的. Brains do not necessarily equate out to success. I guess it helps you to get that lil' headstart. But the women CEOs of today all boost academic results along with looks, ain't it? A beauty contest would always be a beauty contest. The smarter ones would get away, but combined with that slight bimbotic-ness and beauty, it can be a deadly potion.
Beauty or brains? Take your pick. I know i'm beautiful, smart & somewhat bimbotic.

Sun, Sand & The Sea

Sun, Sand & The Sea
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

Back from Pulau Sibu (also known as Sibu Island) , off Johor, Malaysia. I'm sunburnt but happy. I managed to spend some time with my gfs, and of cos, to celebrate April's birthday. I remembered contributing a blog entry for April just last year. And now it's yet another year. Dammit.

Anywayz, back to our trip. It was a 3 day trip for the Good Friday long weekend. I staggered to go to the trip, having returned home a bit smashed on Thursday. But upon reaching the place, i felt absolutely great. The water was clear, cool and extremely inviting. The sand was really fine. It was a place where you can just stroll around in your bikini all day. And it's a tiny island which you can just walk around & cover within two hours.

We went to trek around the island. It was a 60 minute trek session. But it nearly killed me. It'll top the list of my worst adventures followed closely with the HSBC Tree Top Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir, Singapore. I saw baby sharks with black dorsal fins, swimming in groups of 2 or 3. Saw a huge ass millipede. I managed to snorkel for the 1st time! Yeah baby! Oh and i scare the daylights out of my friends, when i hum the anthem to Jaws, while snorkelling and looking at the beautiful fishes & corals. Hahaha, it was funny though, i just wanted to see whether by the tunes of Jaws would freak the fishes out. My friends who were out snorkelling with me were laughing and shouting my name when they realized i'm playing a fool in the middle of the sea. Yes, i'm silly.

I can't wait for our next trip to some beach resort. Oohhh yeah...
I love it this time round... and it's quite an escape and different from our daily ruckus. And i truly enjoy myself ...

Purdue : - My 啊哥 Sanford

Purdue : - My "bro" Sanford
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

This is my 啊哥 Sanford, back from the days of Purdue. Someone whom i cherish & love, despite the days he treat me like shit. He was kind enough to host me through my trip in Chicago, about two months ago. He's someone who i know would fly gadzillion miles just to make sure i'm alright, or if i'm ever in trouble. I miss my other 啊哥 Dennis, who's based out in Shanghai. And it's been years since we 三條友 got together.

I'm now officially worth three hours of Sanford's time. So much for being his best sister. He had to plan a three hour stopover in Singapore... instead of what could have been a day which would include a lunch & dinner at least. Instead we (Gavin, Sanford & me, include my sis in tow) had dinner at Crystal Jade @ Changi Airport, Singapore. Believe me... it isn't funny. From what could have been a Chompz dinner, turning into airport dinner. Ohhh whatever!

Sanford, cheers to you... and a gentle reminder that i am worth 3 hours' of your time only. hahaha, i will remember you for that.

track day...

I had another track day this past weekend Friday 7th April , albeit not as fun as my 1st trackday. But it's still very interesting. Cheers to Axl's friend and Uncle Stephen for the pics. I am the only DC5 this time round, with a bunch of BMWs from z4 to 320 etc, WRX, STi, Legacy GT, Mini CooperS, and of cos, a bunch of evos.

I'm the slowest car on track, horsepower limited, i'm still having only 160hp at crank, plus some auto transmission loss = dude, fugging slow. Some people might think it's a joke, but all that matters is i own my car and i'm happy. Pls don't make me sing the Independent Woman track again. I don't need no man to tell me what i can do or can't do. I paid for it, i'm gonna do whatever i like.

This week, I brought mom and my sis along, to assure them that motorsports is a very safe sport. And most importantly, you learn limitations of your car. And that's very important for daily driving.

I feel that I've improved quite a bit from my last track day. I'm slowly overcoming my fear of bends, & turns. I find that the more laps i do, the better i nail my lines, and the more confident i am of driving. I swear i am gonna do better with each trip. Can't wait till June. Woohooo!

more fridays to come...

This past week marks the beginning of a crazy month ahead. I am having 4 day work week, for a month... till end April. I guess that's something very worth rejoicing. I got myself a brand new gadget. Yes, i'm a bit dated. I bought a navy Motorola V3. Just a V3, not i or x versions. Why? I need a phone that won't crash on me with my 700ish phone numbers, i ruled out PDA phones because i hate the bulkyness, even the Dopod ones can't satisfy me with their sizes. Until i find a way to live with the fact i need a PDA phone, i shall run from one. I need a phone that i can call and sms. And of course, it has to be chic and slim. So V3 it is for me.

I went to bring my lil' red up to Sepang International Circuit on Friday. Yep, it's virgin trip into Malaysia. Boy, i love it. I'm now known as the North South terror, travelling at speeds that i can't just rattle off. Ok, i may be slow on the circuit, but i would just say i had pretty bad experiences with corners before, and it traumatises me. I've been through a car ride back in US that the car nearly flipped. I think i might left my guts where that incident took place. Dratz!

I'm still tired from my trackday. I'm going up for another this coming friday. The following friday will be for my Good Friday getaway. And then i'm off to Shanghai.

Before i sign off, i leave u with pics of me in my Snoopy tee. I love snoopy.

My lil' tribute to Ben & his funny snippets

Ben's a friend of Mr. E, and he never fails to crack me or rather us up with his lil' funny snippets of his life. He's halfway around the world in US, out in California. But he's from the bay area, kinda. He's offbeat, he's funny, he loves cycling, he loves to do outdoor stuff. he's also a geek, getting his PhD, tho i doubt he needs it cos he has permanent head damage already. He hates to conform to today's social norms. Funny thing is he sings for his church choir. *heh heh* it's something i personally find amusing. sorry Ben, i had to laugh.

What he needs is an offbeat chick, who loves outdoors, particularly cycling, ... oh yea, he offers a fast ticket out to US. So girls, lemme know.

Why am i promoting / marketing him? Simple. He's nuts. And i think his mom thinks so too. How do i know? He send me a snippet of his conversation with his mom, when his brother got married over last weekend in Singapore. He chose not to return for such societal BS.

Snippets : ---
MUM: What is wrong with settling down with a nice gal like your brother? Aren't you afraid of dying alone?
ME: Better than dying enslaved.
MUM: *stumped for the longest time*
ME: Hello? Hello?
MUM: I knew it was a bad idea for me to agree to you majoring in English.

I decided to be cheeky and told him i too won't ever send my kids off to learn engrish. I would rather let them learn Hokkien, and be ah bengs & ah lians.

My Hokkien Version : ----
Mom : ka le eh brother sio siang chua chin ka pore zha bor wu simi bo ho
Mom : le ai ka ki si ah...
Mom : chin cham leh...
You : ka ki si ...ho ke zho lang eh ku li si... zhun boh?

Cheers Ben !

a very baby weekend...

If you asked me what i did for most of the week, i have not really done much, i guess. I've been really tired from work. I met friends for afterwork drinks on Thursday. I have dinner with friends on Friday... yums to seafood dinner. I swear the seafood places along East Coast have jumbo crabs, which have jumbo pincer, which works well for me.

The weekend rolled around. There's no way i would go back to work. I need more time to rest & sleep. & i love kids. Yes, little kids, though i cannot think why i would want one. I love kids, just that they can't be mine.

I spent Saturday afternoon with Becky, she's so cute. She's so cute. She does superman moves when i carry her around like superman. Too bad her mom cut her hair till she look like a boy. But she's so uber cute. Judge for yourself.

On Sunday, it's Ashley's 1st month celebrations. To Sam & Gina, congrats. Once again i reiterate, i love kids, just not my own. It's not in my plans for the next 5 years, at least how i see it. I love carrying kids. But i can't handle wailing kids, or babies. I get stuck with babies, and can't talk, move, for fear of disturbing their sleep.

Ahhh... the week is going to start again. Thank God it's gonna be four day week for the next month or so. Yeah baby!

Heineken Green Room : Gang Starr at Helipad

On Saturday, Angie & me decided to go out & play. Of course, the thought of going to a Helipad is awesome. It's afterall a Helipad. How often do we get to visit a Helipad? Of cos, we must go! Jeannie went, but the zZzMonster managed to catch up to her, and made her sleepy. We did have fun taking pikchers, though not as much fun as i would like the night to be.

________________________________________________________

Jeannie, Angie & me met earlier in the week to have dinner too. Over sakae... and just laughed and laughed. Although everyone's really tired from working, we realize our meeting is past overdue. We also met with Alfred & Dennis. Alfred's all tied up with his Xbox 360 launch and the Heineken Helipad party. Dennis, is Dennis. I don't know what to say to describe him.

Picnic Picnic Picnic

Call my girls crazy. I do think they are. So since we haven't met for so long, while i was away in States, the saturday upon being back 4th Of March, they organized a picnic just to sit and talk crap. I went off to meet them along with Angie. Everyone was there. I can't quite recall who wasn't. Oh Rulin wasn't, but it's fine. She's always busy, and a newly inducted girlie of the group.

Coming back from sub zero temperatures... to Singapore where it's mostly high 80s throughout the year, i can't help but feel like i'm stuck in a baking oven. And with every step i take, i only feel more exhausted and dehydrated.

It was nice meeting up with the girls. Meihwan as usual was the oddball. When i arrived ( ok, i know i am late for two hours, but i am damn tired so i rest at home first), she was playing the Sony PSP. 2 and a half hours after i arrived, she's still at it. We had to take a group pic while she continued playing pictures. Argh... drive me crazy.

Oh but at least by the end of the day, we decided to go to Sibu Island out in Malaysia to relax, chill and just enjoy the sun, sand and sea together in mid April. Yay... and to celebrate April's birthday. Seeya gurls then. can't hardly wait...

Modern day love

In this time and age, where you see young couples getting together and splitting apart. And the material things in life being one of the considerations of being together. Like i have said before, i ain't going for no broke brother. You can't help but wonder what's love.

I had a chat with this dude who resides out in US whom i shall just address Ben. Ben has always been a cuddle-bitch to many chicks. Perhaps cause he has a good listening ear, and always promise to be there whenever you need him, or his shoulder to cry on. We always have good chats, and i totally appreciate his enthusiasm when i start my rubbish.

Ben: to be honest, I have the hots for one girl. But I am not ready to get back in the game.
Eve: wah seh...and u wanna wait till the cows comes home
Ben: there's no hurry... I expect to live to at least 65 :D

Eve: hahahaha, by then the cow's udders have sunk

Ben: by then, Sony would have invented anime babe versions of the Aibo. :P

Eve: hahaha, and then named it CHABO

Ben: lol

Eve: if you call within the next 15 minutes, we'll throw in a "ANTI SHOPPING" software device that stops your chabo from shopping

Eve: enjoy great savings now

Ben: no more males for NS

Eve: wah lieuz... creative juice what

Ben: lol

Eve: so buy ChaBo now

At the end of the day, Ben said it should be somewhat the iMac anime chick. Haha. By then, i will need boobs implants, collagen lips, and a whole lot of work on myself before i can outshine the anime chicks. sighzzz

Andrew Da Man...

Before i can continue my posts about my lil' trip to SF, i am forced to talk about Andrew by Andrew da man himself. My trip to SF is really short. I guess there's nothing much to taalk about. So without further ado, let's move on.

So here's introducing Andrew da man.
I met him back @ Purdue during my lil' trip. He wants me to tell you guys he drinks wine like water. We had like 4-5 bottles of wine between 4 of us, that makes us drinking about 1 bottle odd each, of a mix between red & white wine. Before that, Zhuang, Ke Winn & me had a huge ass Sapporo beer during dinner. Andrew is too atas to join us. Ohhh... and Andrew also slides down the stairs ... for me , just for me, really just for me. TWICE! Heh heh, all cause i don't visit Purdue often. Lil' kids are advised not to follow what is read here. Andrew is silly, so he can get away with it. But it goes to show how drunks can be like. Oh... and he's also very much in love with Zhuang, judging from the pictures. So here's more of Andrew.

to Purdue i go...

I spent a good 3 days and a couple more hours out in the Midwest. I should have been given more time, if they had more seats to fly back to Singapore. Shucks. Oh well. I met Sanford, one of my dearest brothers, that i hold close to my heart. And it's been so nice. I also manage to meet a couple of old school mates out in Chicago. Thanks Shawn & Sanford for showing me around Chicago. So while out freezing my butt in Chicago, crazy me decided to drive back to Purdue. Yes, Purdue. My old alma mater. The place where i once had the time of my life. The place i've been ranting about. The place that i wanted to go back to, for the longest time. All because of the Starbucks inside the Union. I am "suaku", so?

The once-seemingly-long route from Chicago back into West Lafayette, Indiana now seems like a short drive, bumping with the rap rhymes of Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Nelly & Juelz Santana. Armed with a bottle of Coca Cola & a Grande cup of Starbucks Chai tea, i jump into that Ford Taurus. Yes, an old-dude's ride, but still comfy, and it comes with cruise control. So i love that sh#t to bits.

You know you had reach Indiana when you see cornfields... and more cornfields... and more cornfields. Errm, you get my drift. Truly the anticipation of going back my alma mater is something i can't put words to. I guess, the exhileration of going back to the place i met my best mates, and of course, remembering the good ol' days. To the soothing music of Howie Day's Collide, i pulled into my college town, up from the Levee. Yes Purdue. I'm back! I went around and managed to chat with a few of my professors.

The joy when i met my friend Ke Winn. And we reminisced while running about the campus, when i was in school... and over our love for Dave Matthews Band. He into Ants Marching; me into my Crash Into Me (live version, no less). Sorry if i am really suaku gushing over the spanking new Borders / Barnes at the Levee, the nice Krannert (or whatever), the change in my LAEB to BEER building, oh that nice spanking creative arts building sitting on what used to be my parking lot. And of cos that Armstrong Aero Building coming right up. Hahaha, i totally enjoyed myself during that one day trip, that despite losing my bed space to Mr. Andrew. Yes, Andrew, the infamous stair roller of ThePurdueDiaries. Heh heh, and i met Zhuang. The reason why ThePurdueDiaries was born. Whatever the case is, that's history. Who gives a flying fish. Ermm, though Andrew still offered me the honors by showing me his infamous rolling down of stairs. All it took is a couple of red & white wine. Ooh, and i totally remember that fart. Dude! Yucks! And showing up the next morning at 9am to play indoor soccer reeking of alcohol. And then crazily driving 2 and a half hours back to Chicago. Dude! I love every minute of it. It was just so off the usual routine.

I had a wonderful time out in MidWest and Chicago. Over Sangrias in Chicago. Yup, we got high on Sangrias. Peach Sangrias are yummy. Went to some offbeat local places i never been before. Sorry, Ke Winn, but apparently Blogger hates the pikcher where you looked decent, and wanted a pikcher of you in a high mode. Waiting with our freezing butts in Chinatown just to have dim sum. 45 frigging minutes. And i thought we only wait this long out in Singapore. Well, The list of madcaps goes on. Thanks guys for bringing me around, and especially for squeezing some time out to hang out together. Cheers!

my lil' trip : Vegas & LA...

Just returned from US. I had the chance to return for a short lil' trip, to visit family, friends and to recharge my burnt out body. I seemed to have given my body a good total crazy wipeout kinda bashing... to head straight to burnt out land. And this is nothing liken to burn out on the PlayStation2 or XBox games. It just feels good to be away for a while.

My flight had a six hour layover in Taipei. And that sucked. The moment, we got into LA, we drove straight to Las Vegas. Yes, Vegas baby.... Yea, Las Vegas, Nevada baby... the city that never sleeps. The lights that are brilliant, and where you can possibly go around the world all in a place... from the streets of Paris, to the Vienna waters... to Fiery waters... to the most number of LV stores i see in one tiny stretch of road. Singapore have like 3. & we're much bigger than the strip in Vegas. but they have like... 3 or 4, all within a mile of each other.

Truly the architecture is magnificent. Vegas promises a view that left me breathless. There's the Venetian, Paris, Bellagio, Mirage, MGM, and of cos... Monte Carlo. Yep, that hotel from the tv sitcom "Las Vegas". I really enjoyed the sights, despite being a lil' jet lagged from that long flight, and going there from Singapore. It's been a long way, baby. The synchronization of the fountain right outside Bellagio is awesome, and so mind-boggling, that i had to watch it like four times. It's that good! Of course, even after all these years, Mirage's fiery performance still leaves me in awe. Of cos, that addictive ring of the Jackpot machines are alluring... and the enticement of the texas hold'em is there. But i did not get the time nor chance to partake in any form of such risk-taking activity.

Hahaha... then after that lil' 3 day trip, it's back to LA. Back to visiting my old friends, and to chill out, and just shop. I did take another 2 day trip down to San Diego to visit the one love true love of my life : Shamu. I have a thing for killer whales, and it's been years since i last visited Sea World. Shamu has a junior right now. And the sights off Mission Bay is just awesome.

Don't know why, but it sure feels good to be back in SoCal. Oh, and the one thing i realize about Californians is despite the fact the weather is freezing, think about low 50s fahrenheit (a bit weird for SoCal to be this cold during late Feb), and we have our jackets on, we're still walking around in flip flops. Hahaha! I love SoCal.

More about back to Purdue on my next blog. Yes, i went back to Purdue, and met some guys from ThePurdueDiaries.
