What happens when you know Eve?

She's brutal.
She's cold.
She's just plain evil.

Excerpt from conversation with Ben :
Ben : miss you too, have you had your dinner?
Me : Miss me?
Me : WTF?
Ben scrambles off and tells me to ignore the message.
You know something, Ben..... i ain't gonna ignore it.

Reason why everyone loves Eve
1) She's gorgeous
2) She's evil.
3) She's Brutal
4) She's cool.
5) you know she means what she says.

Hahaha, enjoy this, Ben.
Oh yes, i miss you too

Dave's Big BBQ Party

Dave's Big BBQ Party
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

Saturday evening was spent at Dave's big bbq party. He's in no doubt one of the best bbq organizers. There were pork ribs, stingrays, jumbo huge prawns, sausages, chicken wings... and skewered chicken ala yakitori. Through & through, the food was well marinated and definitely yummy.

I had fun. The pool beside the bbq pit was totally nice. I can soak my feet to the jets. The only bummer is i burnt my thumb. Yes, it looks as though i am now the ambassador for plasters. Overall, I enjoyed the night, met some new people. We had a really small bunch of people around. Dave's family is super friendly. And you know what... i nearly forgot : HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE. You know we love you.

Hong Kong Birthday Escape...

me in Mongkok
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

I seized the chance to fly off to Hong Kong for a brief escapade. It was a brief four days. Frankly, i don't fancy holidays to anywhere other than back to US, cos i never have adequate sleep. It's always walking walking walking. I much more fancy a hols somewhere on the beach, when i can just walk around in shorts & bikini, though i really have to work out to get a much better leaner bod.

So back to Hong Kong. We had a full four days. The first of which spent in Shenzhen. And then off to Hong Kong to shop up a storm. Well i didn't exactly get a lot of stuff. I did get a pair of heels, a pair of boots, 3 tops, and a skirt. Hmm, and a couple of bags. Not a lot, considering i have heard people coming back with oversized or overweight baggages.

Maybe i just have too much stuff. I do like the style of the people of Hong Kong ( are they Hongkie? or Hong Kongers? I think it's the latter). Sneakers are their choice of footwear, and they have a lot of vintage nikes and adidas, and tons of converse shoes. it's very street very comfy, and i love it.

The food is my kinda stuff. Very light. Instant noodles with either spam, eggs or ham. Your choice. And of course, coke with slices of lemon... or even the amount of herbal tea. There's a herbal tea stall almost every street. I also had some lamb ribs. Hmmm.. dim sum. Oh, and there's this fantabulous dessert stall in Tsim Sha Tsui called Sweet Dynasty. The food was just absolutely yummy : the glutinous dumpling, the tang yuen, the almond paste. I don't quite like the ice kachang kinda stuff. But dig the cantonese style of dessert of almond / sesame paste.

Of course i got back to Singapore, very tired. And went back to work the next day. And i'm still sick. It's been a week. Sigh...

Oh thanks for the birthday wishes and sms-es. I ishhhh very touched. But now to sleep off my cold / sore throat and dry eyes. sigh...

Back...

It's been some days since my birthday. This year it's toned down, except peppered with tons of shopping. I haven't quite gotten to unpacking. Maybe i will.

Dear Ben, i will upload pics and a full run-through of my escape from my own birthday celebrations... as soon as i find my frigging k*%#*$%^& sync cable for the camera.

Oh side note : i got the new ipod nano in pink. it's cute. it's smaller than my mobile phone.

very lovely...

I got home today, and turned on the tv to Channel U. And it was showing "Save your last dance" a korean drama serial encompassing the lovelife of these two lovers. Storyline : Guy loses memory, Guy meets girl. Guy regains memory. Guy forgets girl. Girl gets upset. Girl gets lost. Girl tries to help guy recalls memory, but failed. When guy falls in love with the girl again, the girl is dating his enemy. Cliche... yes i know.

But you know what. The music is quite soothing. I can be sappy sometimes, can't i? or you guys just can't deal with it?

Of life & such.

I don't know what to write as the title of my post.
I only know right now, i feel a void.
Perhaps i asked for it, by loudly exclaiming i don't want it, for i might leave.
Perhaps i should have just kept my mouth shut.
Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps.
Do i really want to be with the people?
I thought about it & felt "No".
I looked around me, i don't feel the warmth.
The coldness surrounds me.
No longer i see the familiarity & closeness.
What i do feel is this sense of betrayal & distrust.
All around me feels strange.
My mouth can't speak the words of before.
What breeds now is this sense of fear to speak before me.
Contribution of my kindness has not been met.
My love has not been spread.
Such perils of life.
Maybe i should go.
Maybe i should stay.
I lost hope. Hope in mankind.

chocolate martini, soju & baileys...

It's Saturday morning. I just got home, after celebrating Wang's birthday. No pics, i didn't bring my camera out. We started off with Happy Hour @ Morton's @ 5pm to 7pm. The infamous steak sandwiches along with the kick-butt apple martinis & chocolate martinis. Divine plus fattening. It's been some time since i hung with the boys & the girls ... my drinking group who never fails to make me laugh until my socks get knocked off. We drank till close to 8pm. We prolly had at least 30 among the ten of us.

As if the steak sandwiches' not enough. We went off to korean bbq. I have never seen that much food on a table. Err actually i have. But the guys are funny. Soju soju soju soju soju Soju SOJU! Yes, seven bottles, plus a bottle of complimentary raspberry wine. This could only spell madness. And it's not even 10pm yet.

We continued the night by trottering down to Esmi, otherwise known as HOME GROUND. More alcohol... i stuck to my baileys. Of cos i got made to down two tequila rose. But that's cool. I still managed to drive Wang home. Hahahah

It's been a good night. And now goodnight to one & all. I love you guys...

Break...

I went to Bangkok last weekend for a quik getaway. I did buy some stuff. Mainly retro dresses etc. But it's surprising that despite the fashion being really low-priced & looks absolutely hot, that i only hauled home like 3 dresses, 3 tops, and a pair of shoes, couple of bags. I am so proud of myself.

Been swarmed with work upon return. I don't even have time to catch up on my old work. This is just too good to be true. Well, more work = more moolahz. No?!?! Yes ?!?!!! Definitely.

The song that i've been humming these days. Perhaps it reasonates with how i feel right now.
It's Over My Head (Cable Car) by The Frays.
"
I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears"

Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars

There are many versions of music videos to this song. You could youtube it, and prolly find renditions, lil' snippets of fellow youtubers' life to the tune of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

I wish i can make a pix montage of it. However, i haven't gotten over my absolute fear of lying down on dirty floors. At least not in Bangkok over the last weekend.

Enjoy the vid. I love it.

Chasing Cars (Grey's Anatomy Version)

Have you ever heard this song?
It's so sad and slow. But very nice. Combine this with Grey's Anatomy. I heart Grey's Anatomy.

Beautiful things to remember by.

Just received the pictures from Mrs Nicholas Loke. It seemed just yesterday that Nick (far left) and Suet (standing next to me) are schoolmates of mine who were dating then. Fast forward to seven / eight years down the road, and having lost contact with them during the past few years that they're in US while i'm back in Singapore, they got married : Mr & Mrs Loke. I got invited to their wedding dinner in Singapore.

Next to get married is Mike & Mae, also in the same picture, at end of this year. Ooh, and i get to be their lil' helper. I can't wait to see what a blast that's going to happen.

More pictures on my flickr set.

emergency vehicles & the use of public roads

How often do we see emergency vehicles being blocked by cars on the freeway? How often do we see cars tailgating emergency vehicles? I am once guilty of such move, but in the end thought of it being all too silly.

Do we ever realize the person in the ambulance might die due to that 30 second delay? Do we ever realize that the fire can grow to a huge fire that will wipe out that whole flat in 30 seconds? Do we even realize that the someone involved in the accident need that fire engine to exterminate that fire, and 30 seconds will save their life?

No, i think human are just selfish. Rules & Laws have to be made to alter that school of selfish thoughts. I love how US has that regulation: No vehicle can follow that ambulance or police vehicle or fire engine...for a distance.

I am afraid to say this but there are some ugly drivers out there. These ugly drivers also hog the road to watch the Singapore Fireworks Festival. Go read the papers, and you'll see articles of ugly drivers and of cos ugly pedestrians who do not care about road safety and crossing blindly.

At this rate the ugly people are going, soon we'll have more laws restricting ugly people to own vehicles and the privilege of viewing the fireworks.

Vandal in Bedok, Singapore

In the vicinity around Bedok, Singapore, a businessman was caught on film by a private investigator, for scratching the PI's SUV. Get this... the businessman is the owner of a landed property, and drives around in a merc. The rich can also be silly people. Video is available on Stomp! to see how absolutely ridiculous the businessman's retort to scatching the car is.

He claimed that it's because the PI has parked the car illegally, and then adding on excuses like The car doesn't belong to the neighborhood. Does that reason gives you the right to scratch other people's car?

Remember Michael Fay's case from a few years back? Yes, the American that got caned for vandalising cars in Singapore. The case that put Singapore on the map. I had friends while in America, who will always remember Singapore as the vandal-free country, eventhough they felt the caning was overwhelming.

Now this man here, a Singaporean, is going to be let off under mischief, carrying a penalty of fine and jailtime only, sans the caning. What is this? Isn't the Michael Fay's case supposed to set precedence over vandalism? This is too ludicrous. It's just paving way to more vandalism cases.

I suggest someone out there to start a petition to cane the guy.
It's like if someone scratches my car, i can't punch the guy, as under the eyes of law, assault takes a higher penalty like huge fine and jail of three to five years. Now scratching someone's car is mischief, carrying a maximum of two years' jail. I have to report the guy, let him get jailed for two years... and let him claim that the S$ 5800 bucks to respray paint my brand new car is too much. So what is too much?

Too much is when the guy who scratches my car gets fine and jailtime of up to two years ONLY. CANE THE GUY, just like we did to Michael Fay. It's vandalism, not mischief.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

It was the night of DJ Shadow @ Zouk. The legendary hip hop dj. I'm a huge fan of hip hop since i moved to US. But you know what? I was ready to give it up, seeing the crowds outside Zouk. And give up i did! I went home, and slept before 3am. So the dj saved my life, by giving me extra snooze and beauty sleep.

Woke up on Sunday... and while on my way out, saw a bunch of cars. All nicely parked together. heh heh.. being the car slut, i decided to take a picture. My neighbour was also shocked that three would park together. So here's a peek.

It's National Day week... Wear RED.

il mare & the lake house...

Before any of you guys start whining, the story is really great. I like it. It's touching, and of cos, i know it's girly. It starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullocks. I remember one friend remarking it's like Speed 3; Speed & Speed 2 are flops, this has gotta be a flop too. Nope, i like it. The story is just refreshingly nice, though il mare (the korean version) is slightly nicer. I need english words, as compared to korean language which i understand nothing of. Anyway to sidetrack a little, i saw a bunch of RI boys watching it and discussing about the movie thereafter. Dude, how weird!

The Lake House is like an infinite cycle of this love story. How can you love someone you have never met... this was the question lingering on my mind as i walked out of the theatre. I suppose modern day context would be sms, email or chatrooms, even friendster groups to find someone you can relate so much to. Sometimes those exchange of messages lead to love. But in the story of Il Mare or Lake House, it's like an infinite wait. Exchange of notes come in the form of a mailbox. It all seemed too surreal and bizarre. However, love finds itself in its own funny ways, even if you have not met the person before.

Now that brings me to think of one song : I knew i loved you by Savage Garden.

the mother of all backaches...

I am suffering from the mother of all backaches. Yes, a backache. And before you guys jump into the whole loving mode, you can dream on... it's not that. I am guessing it's due to my work which requires me to move heavy boxes or work. I can't figure out what else.

I have this nasty ache down my shoulder blades which stretches all the way to the back of my neck. And that, in turn, gives me a headache, for a week. I did go to get a massage. hopefully it's getting better.

Till then, i need more rest...

shelf life & expiry dates...

I had the opportunity over the past week to hang around my friends. Oh, before i forget, Congrats Nick & Suet in your holy matrimony and being one : Mr & Mrs Nicholas Loke. Your wedding dinner also doubled as a splendid catch up dinner for the Purdue alums. It was very nice to sit there and chat about what school life was. Incidents quoted : how i am the only Chinese girl some guys ever known who do not know how to use chopsticks, and i claim to be very "angmoh" in my ways, the term "angmoh" lian and me were so tight, that it's now a label. Over that dinner, i realized that everyone around me is now approaching the "marriageable age", as they claim. Of cos, they decided to ask the lil' one : me ... the million dollar question WHEN IS YOUR TURN?

Dating is a vicious cycle. You date, you get committed, you're expected to get married once you reach the expiry date. What exactly is expiry date? Apparently, the men never do have an expiry date. It's the women, or so they say. They expect women to get married by the time they hit late 20s, preferably before 30. When i said i shelf my marriage plans to make way for my intention to further school, my friends scoffed at my idea. My group of friends are made up of mostly men. The general lot feels i should just settle down, get married and pop some babies. I, on the other hand, wants to finish school, find a better job and be able to buy my own stuff, and to fulfill my 30 things to do before i turn 30.

I wonder if the women ever gets to be what they want to be, and not live by the societal norms of getting married before they turn 30. To the elderly, it paves way for childbirth, child rearing and every other thing revolved around a lil' baby. Well... that can wait.

For now, it's 30 things before i turn 30. And one of the items is to buy my very own evo.
