Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars

There are many versions of music videos to this song. You could youtube it, and prolly find renditions, lil' snippets of fellow youtubers' life to the tune of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.

I wish i can make a pix montage of it. However, i haven't gotten over my absolute fear of lying down on dirty floors. At least not in Bangkok over the last weekend.

Enjoy the vid. I love it.

Chasing Cars (Grey's Anatomy Version)

Have you ever heard this song?
It's so sad and slow. But very nice. Combine this with Grey's Anatomy. I heart Grey's Anatomy.

Beautiful things to remember by.

Just received the pictures from Mrs Nicholas Loke. It seemed just yesterday that Nick (far left) and Suet (standing next to me) are schoolmates of mine who were dating then. Fast forward to seven / eight years down the road, and having lost contact with them during the past few years that they're in US while i'm back in Singapore, they got married : Mr & Mrs Loke. I got invited to their wedding dinner in Singapore.

Next to get married is Mike & Mae, also in the same picture, at end of this year. Ooh, and i get to be their lil' helper. I can't wait to see what a blast that's going to happen.

More pictures on my flickr set.

emergency vehicles & the use of public roads

How often do we see emergency vehicles being blocked by cars on the freeway? How often do we see cars tailgating emergency vehicles? I am once guilty of such move, but in the end thought of it being all too silly.

Do we ever realize the person in the ambulance might die due to that 30 second delay? Do we ever realize that the fire can grow to a huge fire that will wipe out that whole flat in 30 seconds? Do we even realize that the someone involved in the accident need that fire engine to exterminate that fire, and 30 seconds will save their life?

No, i think human are just selfish. Rules & Laws have to be made to alter that school of selfish thoughts. I love how US has that regulation: No vehicle can follow that ambulance or police vehicle or fire engine...for a distance.

I am afraid to say this but there are some ugly drivers out there. These ugly drivers also hog the road to watch the Singapore Fireworks Festival. Go read the papers, and you'll see articles of ugly drivers and of cos ugly pedestrians who do not care about road safety and crossing blindly.

At this rate the ugly people are going, soon we'll have more laws restricting ugly people to own vehicles and the privilege of viewing the fireworks.

Vandal in Bedok, Singapore

In the vicinity around Bedok, Singapore, a businessman was caught on film by a private investigator, for scratching the PI's SUV. Get this... the businessman is the owner of a landed property, and drives around in a merc. The rich can also be silly people. Video is available on Stomp! to see how absolutely ridiculous the businessman's retort to scatching the car is.

He claimed that it's because the PI has parked the car illegally, and then adding on excuses like The car doesn't belong to the neighborhood. Does that reason gives you the right to scratch other people's car?

Remember Michael Fay's case from a few years back? Yes, the American that got caned for vandalising cars in Singapore. The case that put Singapore on the map. I had friends while in America, who will always remember Singapore as the vandal-free country, eventhough they felt the caning was overwhelming.

Now this man here, a Singaporean, is going to be let off under mischief, carrying a penalty of fine and jailtime only, sans the caning. What is this? Isn't the Michael Fay's case supposed to set precedence over vandalism? This is too ludicrous. It's just paving way to more vandalism cases.

I suggest someone out there to start a petition to cane the guy.
It's like if someone scratches my car, i can't punch the guy, as under the eyes of law, assault takes a higher penalty like huge fine and jail of three to five years. Now scratching someone's car is mischief, carrying a maximum of two years' jail. I have to report the guy, let him get jailed for two years... and let him claim that the S$ 5800 bucks to respray paint my brand new car is too much. So what is too much?

Too much is when the guy who scratches my car gets fine and jailtime of up to two years ONLY. CANE THE GUY, just like we did to Michael Fay. It's vandalism, not mischief.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

It was the night of DJ Shadow @ Zouk. The legendary hip hop dj. I'm a huge fan of hip hop since i moved to US. But you know what? I was ready to give it up, seeing the crowds outside Zouk. And give up i did! I went home, and slept before 3am. So the dj saved my life, by giving me extra snooze and beauty sleep.

Woke up on Sunday... and while on my way out, saw a bunch of cars. All nicely parked together. heh heh.. being the car slut, i decided to take a picture. My neighbour was also shocked that three would park together. So here's a peek.

It's National Day week... Wear RED.

il mare & the lake house...

Before any of you guys start whining, the story is really great. I like it. It's touching, and of cos, i know it's girly. It starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullocks. I remember one friend remarking it's like Speed 3; Speed & Speed 2 are flops, this has gotta be a flop too. Nope, i like it. The story is just refreshingly nice, though il mare (the korean version) is slightly nicer. I need english words, as compared to korean language which i understand nothing of. Anyway to sidetrack a little, i saw a bunch of RI boys watching it and discussing about the movie thereafter. Dude, how weird!

The Lake House is like an infinite cycle of this love story. How can you love someone you have never met... this was the question lingering on my mind as i walked out of the theatre. I suppose modern day context would be sms, email or chatrooms, even friendster groups to find someone you can relate so much to. Sometimes those exchange of messages lead to love. But in the story of Il Mare or Lake House, it's like an infinite wait. Exchange of notes come in the form of a mailbox. It all seemed too surreal and bizarre. However, love finds itself in its own funny ways, even if you have not met the person before.

Now that brings me to think of one song : I knew i loved you by Savage Garden.

the mother of all backaches...

I am suffering from the mother of all backaches. Yes, a backache. And before you guys jump into the whole loving mode, you can dream on... it's not that. I am guessing it's due to my work which requires me to move heavy boxes or work. I can't figure out what else.

I have this nasty ache down my shoulder blades which stretches all the way to the back of my neck. And that, in turn, gives me a headache, for a week. I did go to get a massage. hopefully it's getting better.

Till then, i need more rest...

shelf life & expiry dates...

I had the opportunity over the past week to hang around my friends. Oh, before i forget, Congrats Nick & Suet in your holy matrimony and being one : Mr & Mrs Nicholas Loke. Your wedding dinner also doubled as a splendid catch up dinner for the Purdue alums. It was very nice to sit there and chat about what school life was. Incidents quoted : how i am the only Chinese girl some guys ever known who do not know how to use chopsticks, and i claim to be very "angmoh" in my ways, the term "angmoh" lian and me were so tight, that it's now a label. Over that dinner, i realized that everyone around me is now approaching the "marriageable age", as they claim. Of cos, they decided to ask the lil' one : me ... the million dollar question WHEN IS YOUR TURN?

Dating is a vicious cycle. You date, you get committed, you're expected to get married once you reach the expiry date. What exactly is expiry date? Apparently, the men never do have an expiry date. It's the women, or so they say. They expect women to get married by the time they hit late 20s, preferably before 30. When i said i shelf my marriage plans to make way for my intention to further school, my friends scoffed at my idea. My group of friends are made up of mostly men. The general lot feels i should just settle down, get married and pop some babies. I, on the other hand, wants to finish school, find a better job and be able to buy my own stuff, and to fulfill my 30 things to do before i turn 30.

I wonder if the women ever gets to be what they want to be, and not live by the societal norms of getting married before they turn 30. To the elderly, it paves way for childbirth, child rearing and every other thing revolved around a lil' baby. Well... that can wait.

For now, it's 30 things before i turn 30. And one of the items is to buy my very own evo.

think...

I like long drives along the freeway, heading home after clubs, listening to more slower tunes. It's extremely relaxing. I got into my car after drinks at Balaclava and Zouk, sans my sister as she wants to hang out more with her friends at zouk. Switched on Class 95 and what do i hear? A very soulful rendition of Yellow by Tanya Chua. I started singing along to it. I have always loved Coldplay's rendition but Tanya didn't disappoint. I got into a daze and thought about everything under the sun. Songs always remind me of a significant event : the time, the date, the episode, and the people involved.

From "yellow", I pop my cd and it went onto a string of other songs : Collide by Howie Day (All time fave), BeWitU by PCD, For My Babies by Simply Red, and of course Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt. People who said that sad people shouldn't listen to sad songs is so true. At that moment, i felt alone. And i just so much yearn for a hug from a loved one, or a friend. But i know at the bottom of my heart, i have people who love me.... As the songs die down, that Beep from my cell phone reminding me of a friend being concerned is there. Once again, i smile and felt like the luckiest chick in the world. :)

Go kart.

the go karters
Originally uploaded by daftbitch.

Twas a rainy day on Sunday. So of cos, being crazy, i decided to go-kart in the rain again. Now that isn't surprising. I went with the bunch of Integra.Sg dudes this time round. My gawd, we had fun. Afterall, go kart is more about body weight... and how one manipulates that lil' piece of machinery around that tiny track.

I haven't had much practise but felt i did surprisingly alright. I think i'm addicted to driving and speed. Help me !

You gotta see the set of pictures on flickr.
Hilarious, i'm telling you. A bunch of men in yellow suits. I went agst that fashion faux pas, and opted for the wind breaker and my own pair of three-quarts. Heh heh... And PINK CROCS.

Just a lil' confession

I adore Paris Hilton's new song : Stars are Blind.

I have also come to an understanding. People do not need talent to have a hit, they need a good song writer / composer and great PR team.
I need those...

*Eve hums Even though the gods are crazy, even the stars are blind, if you show me real love baby, i'll show you mine.....*

Road Trip & the 1st weekend without mom & sis

Sometimes, people need to let go. I got "buttered"* on Friday night and went off to Zouk with Jeannie and my good ol' friend Wenxiong. buttered* is a term a friend came up with ... which meant we headed down to butter factory. The night went alright. We'll have more drinks to come. I got home, barely got rested... and then went on this whirlwind 300km plus roadtrip to KL, with Angie.

I suspect i'm nuts. I slept barely an hour while she drove, and having to drive for the 2nd leg of the roadtrip. It's wild, crazy and you know what... i love it. I love being unconventional. That's me. Of course, in KL, i shopped like crazy. Mostly the usual stuff i enjoy : shoes ... shoes... shoes. I had fun at The Loft in KL. Nice place, but i seemed to realized the bars in KL doesn't play the usual stuff i'm used to. Or maybe i'm going to the wrong places. Can someone tell me where i should go?

I got back on Sunday evening, and rushed to meet my friends at Siglap. While we sit there, we decide

Oh an interesting anecdote:
Angie commented to me that she finally understands why girls totally hate me, while we were driving back to Singapore.
Reason : I'm obnoxious. I'm unafraid of being myself, strutting around in berms & tees, and just screaming my head off. Of course, it takes effort to be the "uncut" princess within like a diamond waiting to be discovered underneath the rocks. And at the end of the day, i don't really care what people thinks of the uncouth impolite spoilt bratty me. You know what...I love being me

sporty me

Ben just told me my soccer post was a bit off. He's a lil' thrown off with the sporty side of me. Then again, i see that as questioning my knowledge of football. Well, in fact, i don't really know. I only know i am born in Singapore, grew up in Singapore & SoCal, so of cos, innately i am very Singaporean-ish and heartlander, thus punting is in our blood. 4D, toto, big sweep... and now football. Woohoo...

I may not be a sports freak. In fact, i don't like team sports a whole lot. I love individualistic sports like running, or swimming. Funny thing is during school days, i do better in relay teams. So now individualistic sports does it for me : swimming or running ... or driving.

I just came back from KL from trackday. It's been fun. I am starting to enjoy track driving way too much, and learning to overcome that fear of taking turns much faster. I did a mini fishtail that left me shocked. Yep, after that i held back. I smoked my brakes. But they're stock standard, so who knows. It may just pave the way to better things ahead. I got off to a rough start in the morning, driving that awful coupla hours up to Sepang. Feeling extremely grouchy, in the morning of cos. i've got pikchers to prove for them. You can't help that feeling, cos you had barely 2-3 hours of sleep and then driving with extreme care & caution on the road. Being the only chick that's driving, of course, the guys were sniggering. A friend told me my outfit is so not FIA approved. You know what? I don't care. The track's too hot for me to wanna put on teeshirt and stuff. Keyword : skimpy. The outfit worked out well, since i saw the guys sweating buckets. Nonetheless, I had so much fun, but it seems i might have to skip the next trackday. Argh... drive me nuts. I need my rush...

I did have fun, hanging around my friends... and of course, laughing over silly things. And of course, with my sis. And definitely, my ride...

World Cup Season...

World Cup season. A month long of festivities that rolls around once every four years. It can only result in a huge group of soccer widows* or a bunch of guys who get so bored cos the rest of their male buddies are all into soccer.

Soccer is commonly known as football, local (Singapore) lingo. I started watching football when i was in Secondary School. I stopped watching football, when i moved to US to complete my college education. It was then football took on a whole different meaning. To some, it's just the same bunch of guys dressed up in their suits lined with padding to cushion the tackling, hurling a ball. No goal keeper. Just run, yards and yards, without anyone hitting you down. It's almost like the Kiwis' rugby. But of cos the Kiwis will disagree.

Now i'm in Singapore. Football has become the once-familiar term again. 11 men on a team, two teams running after a black & white ball, with a goal keeper being the only one able to touch the ball with his hand. Yea well, go figure. I don't think i will want to be a soccer widow*. The term Soccer Widow was coined by the media and of cos, the general masses. It is to describe women who are deserted by their boyfriends or husbands or other halves for football. No way am i going to sit there being deserted by any boy for the sake of soccer. Of course, there are the guys who get deserted by their girls so the girls can watch football. I think the camaderie whereby you don't need words to pact together. There's an ad on tv that describes that. Football brings the world together.

Football season is here. So whatcha waiting for? Get off your seats and start watching.
